Welcome to the "New MAFCA 2010 International Convention" area. As we get closer to the convention date, we realize the need to keep everyone up to date with the most current information. Please take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with this new area and all that it has to offer. One of the best area's to visit is our "Convention News", this link is located in the left hand menu.

Welcome Party - In support our theme of “Remembering when... in 2010”, we will entertain you with professional musicians, performing music of the Model A era. The party will flow between the ballrooms, the foyer and the outdoor courtyard area. We will have decorations and items to take you back in time. Of course, you will enjoy a buffet dinner. Model A Era apparel welcome and be prepared to have fun.
 
   
Guided Bus Tours
Vancouver City Highlights and Museum Guided Tour (Motor Coach) - A sightseeing tour of the City of Vancouver featuring Chinatown, Gastown, Canada Place, Vancouver harbour, Stanley Park, Granville Island Public Market (no host lunch) and The Museum of Anthropology – University of British Columbia featuring the world’s largest collection of West Coast native artifacts.

“Vancouver City and Van Dusen Gardens” Tour (Motor Coach) - A sightseeing tour of the City of Vancouver featuring Gastown, Canada Place, Vancouver harbour, Stanley Park, Granville Island Public Market (no host lunch) and the VanDusen Botanical Gardens, a spectacular gathering of plant life from all over the world; a gardener’s paradise.

Tour to Stanley Park & Grouse Mountain - Be escorted through beautiful Vancouver and North Vancouver, with points of interest featured on the way. Your motor coach will take you to the base of Grouse Mountain, where you will receive a boxed lunch and take a journey on the “Skyride” to the top of Grouse Mountain. This is North America’s largest aerial tramway and is an experience in itself. You will be treated to breathtaking views 3,700 feet above Vancouver along with the world famous Lumberjack Show, the grizzly bear and grey wolves refuge, eco-walks and the Birds in Motion demonstration. For the adventuresome spirit in you, there’s even zipline or paragliding for an additional fee.
 
   
Fashion  
Ivan Sayers – ’28-31 History of Fashion Extravaganza - This show is an absolute must-see. Ivan Sayers is a fashion historian with an outstanding collection of vintage clothing and accessories. In addition, he has a fine reputation as an entertainer. Ivan and his models will treat you to an upbeat show, portraying the wonderful fashions of the Model A era.
 
   
Youth Activities
Youth Welcome Party - The Youth Welcome Party will be held at the Sandbar Room located in the Elephant & Castle. Youth will be welcomed by a Director of MAFCA. The menu will be youth-oriented, e.g. Quesadillas, chicken strips, cod and a choice of salad or fries. The entertainment features a local magician.

"Model A" Model Building - Youth will have the opportunity to build a 1930 Model A Coupe. The interior is fully detailed, the hood lifts off, the rumble seat lid opens and closes and a spare tire is mounted on the rear. Length is 6 1/4".

Vancouver Aquarium or Science World - The Vancouver Aquarium, largest in Canada, will afford the opportunity to view everything aquatic and take in an entertaining mammal show. At Science World, experience a hands-on approach to science by exploring magnets, structures, simple machines, electricity and chemistry, to name only a few exhibits.

Bowling at "The Zone" - Two 2 hours of bowling and other fun, with shoe rental, in a full-feature entertainment complex.

Swim and Pizza Night - The host hotel pool will have a qualified life guard in attendance. Pizza and refreshments will be served in the Hospitality Room.

Youth Farewell Night/Dinner - Movies, Awards
After dinner and presentation of awards, two movies will be shown. A wrap-up of the youth activities.

 
   
Guided Model A Driving Tours  
Classic Car and Memorabilia Charity Tour – A Guided Model A Driving Tour. Visit the unique private collection and restoration shop of Jim Ratsoy. See over 100 classic cars, plus an amazing collection of jukeboxes, player pianos and arcade pieces dating from the early 1900’s. All tour proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. charity. (About 3 hours/12 miles)
 
 
The Grand Tour / Barbeque: Burnaby Village Museum - We have a full day of scenic driving and historic entertainment planned for you. Burnaby Village Museum is nestled in the trees and meadow near Deer Lake Park. The museum recreates a 1920’s village that would have been a tram stop on one of the interurban lines that serviced rural areas outside Vancouver during the Model A era. You will be entranced by the barbeque lunch, rides on a 1912 CW Parker Carousel, street entertainers and the village itself. Again, bring out your Model A era outfits and prepare to enjoy a day of “Remembering when.... in 2010”.
