Message from John Haddon, President - December 13, 2009
Hello All:
It has been a busy year culminating with two wonderful Christmas luncheons, one in the lower mainland and the other one held last Sunday in Victoria. Plans are marching forward for the August 2010 MAFCA International Meet. We have almost 200 registrants now, which translates to about 400 people. Open registration is scheduled to begin early in the New Year which is expected to swell the number of registrants considerably. The meet will be very well attended so a lot of volunteer hours will be required from all members of the club to ensure a successful event. The committee will be assigning specific job roles to club members so give some thought to the time and effort you will be able to donate.
My immediate concern is planning the regular club activities for 2010 and I need your help in doing so. We have nine meetings scheduled for the next year, the third Tuesday of each month except July, August and December, with all meetings to be held in the Discovery Room at the Burnaby Village Museum. Each meeting will consist of a very short business section followed by a longer session devoted to our interest in Model A vehicles. What I need is your input into the subject matter of these interest/technical sessions. What specific things do you feel would be of interest to the club? Who would you suggest as topic or discussion leaders to cover the interest areas? How many of you would be willing to plan and deliver a session at one of our meetings? Are there some areas other than specific Model A technical problems which would be of interest? A session need not take up the whole allotted time, we can accommodate two or three different topic areas in the time frame. As in the past we can also accommodate very short "Tech Minutes" of interest to the group. We also need some suggestions in planning periodic technical sessions of interest to the group, such as the recent tech session run by Tom Spouse at Dave Kettler's garage. So, give it some thought and then provide some suggestions and we will put the plans into action. For example, the January meeting will feature a 25 minute video on the manufacture of the Model A which Ken Kilby says is a real gem, well worth seeing. It leaves us 35 minutes of session time yet to be filled. Any suggestions???
The other area where we need everyone's input is in the area of tours. David Graham is the director looking after tours for the year and he is always open to suggestions from members for interesting places to drive our cars. Give that some thought as well and talk it over with David so that he can plan for the year ahead.
This is the last message of the year in an attempt to keep in touch with the majority of the club members. I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year and until then I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
