DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION, RESTORATION AND ENJOYMENT OF MODEL A FORDS 1928 -1931 |
May 2008 - ISSUE #43 Dedicated To The Preservation, Restoration & Enjoyment Of Model A Fords...!
Club Model A's Attending Senior's Nursing HOme Visitiation Day
PRESIDENTS MONTHLY MESSAGE May, finally Model A weather…and the touring season begins ! The May monthly meeting will mark the second in the much awaited Engine Rebuilding series as lead by fellow member and Master Judge, John Carlson..! John introduced the topic at the April meeting, supported by hand-outs, offering a thorough overview of the process of engine rebuilding, from magnifluxing & boiling blocks to the process of determining whether a block is worth investing the dollars to rebuild , …or sadly just scrap iron. April was also the month to benefit from another in the highly educational Restoration Series of workshops as conducted by Carl Becker. Saturday, April 26th, saw approximately 20 members attending the workshop @ Al Glen’s, specifically to work through Areas #2- Electrical and #5 – Exhaust Systems, of the MAFCA Judging Standards. As always, an invaluable experience for those in attendance, both as a restoration experience, as well as getting a taste of the process of car judging..! One of the goals is to hopefully encourage more members to consider getting involved with the judging aspect of the hobby, especially with the opportunity to judge at our Convention in 2010. The next in the Restoration Series will be hosted by Carl Becker @ his home in the Sidney area on May 24th . An added treat for the day, over and above the educational aspect of applying the Judging Standards, but those in attendance will also benefit from the unveiling of Carl’s 1931 Deluxe Roadster, which has been under-going an off-frame restoration for the past several years. Carl will have also just returned from the semi-annual JSC (MAFCA Judging Standards Committee) meeting in California, and will bring attendees up-to-date as to any news..! Connect with Al Glen if you are wanting information on attending the workshop; ferry arrangements, car-pooling, foot passengers info or bringing your Model A’s. Thanks to those who have spoken with David Graham, Tour Coordinator, recommending potential runs, garage tours and other forms of socials…! David is always in need of thoughts and ideas, so hopefully present your ideas as well as volunteer to host or lead the event/tour. Trust that you have marked your calendars for both Sunday, June 1st for the Sullivan Station, Inter-Urban Tour in Langley, meeting at the A&W Restaurant on 200th; just north of the Fraser Highway; departing @ 11:30am. Speak with Rene Doyharcabal for more details. Also, our Sunday, June 8th tour to the Burnaby Village Museum for Vintage Auto days; to meet @ the Museum by 11:00am. Entering behind the Museum near the Carousel. See you on tour..!… President Brian
